We
have heard about the idea of a projector tablet before, but we haven’t
seen such a model in real life up until now. Chinavasion is behind this
project, that generated the tablet shown below, a device packing a
projector into its body.
This is a 7 inch tablet with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, 5 point
multitouch and an IPS panel. The project is of the DLP kind and the
Vision brings WiFi in the mix, 2 cameras, 8 GB of storage and Android
4.2 as the OS. Supposedly this is a world’s first and I have to admit
that the other projector slates I’ve seen had bigger diagonals.
This one is able to project 50 inches of image and a resolution of
854 x 480 pixels. You can also boost the storage of the device with an
extra 32 GB via a microSD card slot. The CPU here is a TI OMAP 4430 dual
core ARM Cortex A9 at 1.2 GHz, accompanied by 1 GB of RAM. The battery
is a 4800 mAh unit, good enough for about 4 hours of usage. You can buy
the product from here (in bulk also). The price for a unit is $376.

Hands On With Samsung's Ultra-Thin Windows Tablet
Windows 8 Slims Down
Samsung claims the ATIV Tab 3 is the "world's thinnest" Windows 8 tablet with a 10.1-inch screen.
Samsung claims its recently unveiled ATIV Tab 3 is the "world's thinnest" Windows 8 tablet. We're talking the difference of hundredths of an inch when compared to other Windows tablets out there (such as the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2), but after handling it for a little while, I'll definitely give props to Samsung for creating a Windows tablet that's extremely portable.
If you're used to an iPad, you'll think the 10.1-inch ATIV Tab 3 is featherlight. The spec sheet reports its weight at 1.21 pounds, which is incredibly light for any tablet this size (the iPad is almost 4 ounces heavier). And yes, it's damn thin, too — just 0.32 of an inch.
SEE ALSO: The Problem With Windows 8
Make no mistake, though: This is a real Windows 8 tablet, meaning it doesn't run the watered-down version of Windows known as Windows RT. You can run older Windows apps in the desktop environment on the Tab 3, thanks to its Intel Atom "Clover Trail" chip inside. The tablet was pre-installed with Photoshop Elements, not a Windows 8 app. It didn't launch as fast as on Core-powered device when I tapped the icon, but it worked.Another key piece of pre-installed software is Microsoft Office, which typically does not come free with Windows 8 devices (it remains one of the few advantages of Windows RT). The installation is actually a standalone copy of Office 2013 Home & Student — not a free subscription to Office 365 Home Premium — which is unfortunate, but if this is your single Windows machine, it won't make much of a difference.
Samsung also throws in its trademark S Pen, the stylus that also comes with its Galaxy Note Android tablets. Similar to Android, the stylus works with drawing apps, including the S Note app that includes a useful handwriting-to-text tool and a formula creator.
The writing experience on the ATIV Tab 3 is very similar to the Galaxy Note, which is to say very good, complete with palm detection to help prevent smudging notes. The S Pen also works with Office, but I didn't get a chance to try that out. The overall Windows 8 experience translates well on the ATIV Tab 3 — I didn't get the sense that the device was compromised because of its less powerful Atom chip. The tablet responded to swipes and gestures instantly and fluidly, and it kept up as I switched rapidly through apps, although it might be a different story if I ran Photoshop, Office and dozens of Chrome tabs simultaneously. The writing experience on the ATIV Tab 3 is very similar to the Galaxy Note, which is to say very good
If you don't ask too much of your PC, the ATIV Tab 3 appears to let you do real work while retaining maximum mobility. Paired with a keyboard, it's one of the lightest "mobile office" solutions you can get. Now if only Samsung would announce a price and ship date..

Microsoft Surface Pro coming to the UK on May 23rd starting at £719
Microsoft has a good excuse for the Surface Pro's late arrival in the UK: the company claims that demand in the US stripped its cupboards bare, leaving nothing but RT crumbs to sell on this side of the Atlantic. In any case, Redmond tells us that a date has now been set, with the Core i5-powered tablet due to be available from Microsoft's online store from May 23rd. For once, Brits can look forward to dollar-equivalent pricing, with the 64GB version going for £719 and the 128GB model fetching £799 inclusive of VAT. (That may not be cheap, but at least it's fair.) Meanwhile, the bendy Touch Cover will continue to cost £99, and the more traditional key action of the Type Cover will add another tenner on top of that. So, there it is. Just in time for Haswell to make us wonder when a more power-efficient sequel might be coming out.

Samsung reportedly launching new 8-inch tablet in June, Galaxy S 4 Active in July
Samsung Gulf president Young Soo Kim reportedly made casual mention of an upcoming rugged take on the Galaxy S 4 at a press event earlier in the week, but left out any details. Sources for the Wall Street Journal
claim to know more of the story, and it sounds like the toughened phone
won't be alone this summer. The Galaxy S 4 Active, as it's rumored to
be called, would arrive in July and carry the dust- and waterproofing of
spiritual predecessors like the Galaxy Xcover 2 while maintaining the GS 4's design language. A smaller, 4.3-inch parallel to the GS 4 would appear at the same time -- Galaxy S 4 Mini, anyone? The same tipsters also expect the release of a new 8-inch "Galaxy-line tablet" in June, which suggests the Galaxy Note 8.0
may get a regular Tab counterpart. We wouldn't base our buying
strategies around the rumors when Samsung hasn't said anything that's
truly on the record, but it might be wise to hold off if you're not in a
rush.
Intel Teases Potential Android Notebooks Priced at Only $200
What you see in the image below is the Samsung Ativ PC, that could sell for as little as $200 once it’s available with an Intel CPU and Android on board. Dadi Perlmutter, Intel Chief Product Officer recently spoke to CNET ad said that Intel Core devices may drop prices soon.
Notebooks are expected to reach $200 and we’re talking about Android models, not Windows 8 units here. It’s interesting to hear that about Android as well, after yet another Intel official said last week that we should expect $200 Intel-based Windows 8 tablets in the future. The Intel Atom CPU will power such cheap devices and Android has the advantage of being available out in the open, while Windows 8 PCs require the Microsoft blessing… and tariff.
Intel is ready to deal with cost effective devices and it all depends on the choice of OS. While the entire PC market seems to be slowing down, convertibles/detachables are expected to gain more traction over the following months. Such convertibles are usually defined by high prices, but maybe Intel Atom/Android models will dismiss that cliche. Qualcomm has a big foothold in the Android universe, so it’s hard to see Intel gaining any ground there, although they have some solid new models, like the Lenovo K900 phablet.

Upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III May Include a Photo Sphere Like Feature
If we are to believe the latest rumors and looking back at Samsung’s
previous release schedule, this year should mark the announcement for
the newest smartphone in the Note line. It is supposed to come with new
software features, and maybe a few unique design characteristics to make
it more appealing.
Samsung has put an emphasis on software when it comes to every flagship device they announce, especially with the Note line that is meant to be the perfect productivity tool. The Galaxy Note III that should be arriving this year is said to come with new features in terms of hardware, including a full HD display and a new and improved S-Pen interface.
The latest rumors about what the Galaxy Note III may offer in terms of software state that the manufacturer will include a new camera function called Samsung Orb. The feature that did not make it into the Galaxy S IV, though it could be available later through a software update, is meant to be Samsung’s own version of Photo Sphere – included by Google with Android 4.2. It will allow for taking 360-degree panoramic photos at full resolution that look stunning on a display like that of the upcoming Note device. With it the manufacturer might also be offering new gallery features to better represent the new function.
