Research In Motion, the Canadian mobile phone maker is moving closer to the release of its next-generation mobile operating system, the BlackBerry 10 platform, and seems set to pack it with a nice range of new, appealing applications.
We should see a native Twitter client said to be based entirely on the web, and which should look as pictured in the photos attached to this post…  From tinhte.vn, these images come, which administered to get ahold of a BlackBerry 10 device a few days ago, and which is providing details on what to expect from it.

Nevertheless, it should be recorded that the phone is still running under a beta flavor of the BlackBerry 10 platform, which means that the last release might be unlike and so might be the Twitter app…  RIM is set to make the BlackBerry 10 platform official on January 30, 2013.

Few Steps To Downgrade iPhone Firmware [How To]

If you have used hacker methods to jailbreak or SIM unlock your iPhone, the upgrades iPhone firmware may actually cause your device to become unusable…  That is because Apple has designed its firmware to disable illegal hacks to its software.
This problem usually occurs for many iPhone owners who want to do Pal jailbreak so they can install unauthorized applications…  The way to restore the job or the iPhone, is frequently to downgrade to the original version of iPhone firmware.

GuideLines:
01-  Connect your iPhone to your computer. Allow iTunes to launch on its own…  If iTunes does not start on its own, open it manually by clicking on the desktop icon on your computer.
02- Hold down the “Power” and the “Home,” the round button with the square on it, buttons at the same time until the phone turns off. This should take about 20 seconds. Wait until the screen goes completely dark.
03- Release the “Power” button and continue to hold down the “Home” button…  Within about 10 seconds, iTunes should notify you that your iPhone has been recognized by the system with your iPhone appearing in the list of devices in the side menu panel.
04- Hold down the “Shift” and “Alt” buttons on your keyboard at the same time and press the “Restore” button in iTunes…  Open the original firmware file by clicking on it, instructing iTunes to downgrade to this version.
05- Wait for the downgrade process to finish. You may receive an error message due to the fact that you have not allowed iTunes to complete the upgrade process as planned, but you can ignore it by pressing “OK”…  You should see a message on the iPhone’s screen though, reading “Connect to iTunes” with a small yellow triangle next to it, which means the downgrade has been successful.
06- Turn off your iPhone and restart it before using it…  This will confirm that your iPhone is working properly and will also notify AT&T to restore your original service to the phone.

HTC Rumored to be Planning a Windows RT Tablet, More Slates In the Future

The rumor of the week seems to be the one regarding HTC’s future plans to make new tablets, even ones with Windows RT on board. HTC wasn’t part of the initial wave of Windows tablets and now it’s supposed to work on a 12 inch and 7 inch device, with the latter being able to make phone calls as well.
htc-windows8_android_tablet
The info comes from a person familiar with the Taiwanese company’s plans, who didn’t want to be identified, as the info isn’t public. The HTC tablet that will debut in 2013 will run Windows RT and it may be that the 7 inch format will spawn a very interesting segment, that will give Jelly Bean cheap and small slates a run for their money. It all comes down to how much Microsoft and HTC are willing to take the price down in order to sell volumes. It will be very hard to compete with the iPad Mini, Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD.
With Nokia rumored to be working on a Windows Phone 8 phablet and tablet, no format seems unlikely for WP8 and Win 8 these days and a Windows RT 7 inch tablet would actually make sense. The HTC Flyer had a pretty good design and interesting pen, but it failed to succeed, since it just wasn’t the time of 7 inch slates to thrive. The 12 inch model would be a high end unit, one packing all the power and punch of 2 GB of RAM and a potent CPU, we suppose. I’m guessing that Qualcomm would be the CPU maker chosen by HTC, unless they also have plans for an Intel version…

Nokia 10-inch Windows RT tablet due February 2013 tip sources

The persistent rumor of a Nokia Windows tablet has reignited, with claims that a 10-inch model running Windows RT is in the pipeline for a February 2013 reveal. According to the insiders, Nokia has been in talks with Qualcomm around using the Snapdragon S4 processor for the slate, with a previous 2012 launch schedule put on ice, DigiTimes reports, after Microsoft itself waded into the Windows tablet market.
nokia_windows_tablet_patent

The supply chain tittle-tattle suggests that Nokia had initially intended to release a Windows tablet in Q1 this past year, agreeing a test-run of 200,000 units with ODM Compal. However, Microsoft’s decision to lead the Windows tablet charge with Surface, dissuaded the Finns, with the untested nature of the new OS apparently also scaring them off.
While the exact number of ordered units is yet to be settled upon, this latest chatter says, Nokia is supposedly back in talks with Microsoft, Qualcomm, and Compal about the hardware. The likely reveal is at Mobile World Congress in late February 2013, it’s suggested; Nokia arguably stole the show in 2012, with the surprise announcement of the 808 PureView phone.
Now, DigiTimes has a patchy reputation for rumors, which usually leaves us wary, but the evidence for a Nokia tablet is stacking up. The company’s design chief has previously confirmed that he has been working on tablet concepts, and the Qualcomm connection has also been rumored before.
Publicly, Nokia would only say that “we continue to eye the tablet space with interest, but we have not announced any specific plans,” though CEO Stephen Elop has insisted that the company will only wade into the slate segment when it can identify a way to make something “uniquely Nokia.” Time may not be on the company’s side, however; Nokia identified the absence of a tablet in its range and the threat that presented to its joined-up ecosystem as a whole in an SEC filing earlier this year.
Exactly how Nokia could put a distinctive spin on Windows tablets – beyond using its Lumia design style – is unclear, especially given Microsoft is already working hard on building integration between Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and other elements of its software and services. Still, if Nokia can leverage its experience with carrier subsidies, a 3G/4G-enabled Nokia Windows RT model could well help the firm stand out in showrooms.

Google Doesn’t Intend to Build Windows Apps for Latest Microsoft Platforms

While playing with Windows Phone, Windows RT or Windows 8 you may have felt that something is missing, especially if you’ve used Android before this experience. I’m talking about the total lack of the essential Google apps, stuff like Gmail, Google Maps, Google Reader, even YouTube, plus many other. Well, now it appears that Google itself has no plans in making special Windows apps.
It’s strange to hear that straight from a Google apps product management director, in this case Clay Bavor and I say it’s strange because they’ve been rushing to bring a new Google Maps to iOS, while Windows Phone and Windows 8 are left aside. The same Google official had harsh words about the installed based for Windows on PC and mobile, saying that the users aren’t on the Microsoft platforms right now. He did say that Google is open to invest in that area, too, if the user base increases.
It could that Microsoft’s aggressive ads hurt their feelings or maybe the fact that every Android device sold involves a fee sent to Microsoft… who knows? I would love to see Gmail in a Metro UI version, Google Maps as well, plus a decent YouTube app, something that Windows Phone and Win 8 have been aching for since their launch.

Home Categories Jailbreak 5.1.1 Jailbreak iOS 6 Jailbreak 6.0.1 Unlock Downgrade Downloads Teardown Of Apple’s New 2012 iMac Shows It’s Far From Easy To Repair

Yesterday was the official release day for Apple’s 2012 iMac’s to start going on sale. The 21.5″ models went on sale at Apple stores throughout the world, however you’ll have to wait until you can pick up the 27″ variation. As they tend to do after every release, the fantastic hardware experts over at iFixit have released their teardown of Apple’s 5mm-bezelled beast of a desktop – but it’s not good.
I’m sure most people realised that by making the new iteration of the iMac considerably thinner and lighter than the last version, Apple sacrificed repairability in their product. That certainly rings true. Due to the iMac having a laminated display, the glass and the display assembly are fused together, meaning if you were to break one of them – you have to replace both. The display is also glued with adhesive to the body of the iMac, meaning that if you want to remove it, you’ll have to re-glue it back on when you put it back. Not so good.
This all being said, the iMac is clearly a feat of modern technological advancements at it’s best. So much power packed into such a small form factor, along with such a thin and beautiful design, it’s not a deal breaker for me that it’s so unfriendly to user repair. It may cause some people gripes, but I’d just recommend you purchase the right configuration from Apple, than trying to do it yourself to save a few

Google Updates Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 to Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, Fixes December Birthday Bug

I’m sure you’ve heard about Google’s famous problems with Android 4.2 and the December birthday bug. Turns out that if you own an Android 4.2 device and want to set a reminder or simply set a birthday for December in the People app you can’t, since the choice is offered for only 11 months of the year, without December. Well, this is fixed thanks to a brand new update, to version Android 4.2.1 for Jelly Bean.
The update arrived on the likes of LG Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. The software package is light, less than 2 MB actually and it also includes Bluetooth bug fixes. It was about time that Google performed the update, since at the end of the week December will start and with it the birthdays we don’t want to miss, right?
The OTA update should roll out to you soon, if it hasn’t already. I wonder if they’ll find a way to also make the widgets in the lockscreen totally optional, since there was even a special app that removed widgets from the lockscreen, clearly showing that people are not that happy with it.

Apple HTC case dismissals hit tiny snag at Google-owned patents

The legal teams at Apple and HTC agreed upon a multi-year cease-fire quite recently with exceptions being made only for a collection of patents that are being revealed this week as unique in their direct ties to Google. This set of claims are being dismissed “with prejudice” as opposed to “without prejudice” as it has been with the rest of this legal adventure, and were each being used previously by HTC against Apple. Separately, four “new” patent agreements have been identified by Foss Patents as being stand-out and not especially visible to the public before they were first asserted against Nokia in separate cases – each of them stand-out because of their potential for future Apple vs Samsung or Motorola cases in the smartphone and tablet realms – watch out!

These four patents were asserted by Apple against HTC and will likely be appearing again in the future against other Android-wielding hardware makers – so says Foss. These patents cover the way a smartphone works and are each likely to be attached to the Android workings of the devices in question rather than to the manufacturer specifically, so will likely apply to non-HTC manufacturers as well as they had (up until now) attached to HTC. These patents are as follows:
EP0719487 on an “object-oriented telephony system”
EP0760131 on a “method and apparatus for distributing events in an operating system”
EP0664021 on a “menu state system”
EP0769169 on a “network component system.”
Keep your eyes open for these patents in the future – they WILL be appearing again. There’s also been some stand-out items as far as Google loan patents go. There are a collection of loans out there that are owned by Google but are being loaned out to companies such as HTC. The cases that involved any patents such as these in cases between Apple and HTC have been dismissed “with prejudice” because of Google’s “buyback” right under their agreement with HTC.
Google is not involved in the Apple-HTC agreement in any way and has not been part of any sort of talks with either company regarding the legal agreements at hand to our knowledge. District of Delaware, case no. 11-785-GMS notes that, “each and every claim and counterclaim between Apple and HTC in the above captioned matter are hereby dismissed WITH PREJUDICE solely with respect to HTC and WITHOUT PREJUDICE with respect to Apple and to any other person or entity.” This means that Google patents (as mentioned above) are dismissed as well, but with prejudice rather than without

Chinese iMac Runs Windows 8 & Costs $540 (Pictures)

Huge demand and no supply. Apple says due to some production issues iMac will not be ready until Christmas. Yes it is a bad news but not for everyone, as the Windows 8-powered iMac knockoff is now officially launched. This desktop will definitely be enjoying the late arrival of Apple’s iMac, but will people be liking it? Let’s discover this by knowing about some of its amazing features.

The most prominent specs of this desktop, called Lavi S21i are a 21.5-inch 1920×1080 display, 4GB RAM and Windows 7/8. But that is not it as with the processor you will also be enjoying a 3.3GHz Intel i3 dual-core CPU or a 2.9GHz Intel i5 quad-core CPU. Moreover, with the internal memory, the users can also have the 500GB hard drive (5400 rpm) or the 128GB SSD.. Now this seems quite fascinating.

Moving onto its looks, then this iMac knockoff is really very sleek and stylish, with an aluminium enclosure. It seems to be the thinnest desktop ever, with 0.9 cm of thickness, though Apple is a step ahead, as the iMac has the thickness of 0.5 cm. With that, the built-in HD camera, WiFi connectivity, four USB 2.0 ports, a VGA port and a LAN port makes this knockoff even more dazzling.

If these images have made you fallen in love with this iMac knockoff, then you must be wondering for its price details. So here we tell you that, this iMac-like desktop PC is available at 3,350 yuan (US$540) or 3,850 yuan (US$621), where the 21-inch Apple’s new iMac will be released in December at $1,299. Though the fruit company has valid reasons for its product to be expensive, but still price matters too.

Previous Post Next Post Vodafone UK launches 7-inch Smart Tab 2 tablet.

Google’s Nexus 7, Amazon’s Kindle Fire(s) and Apple’s iPad mini have taken the dull and monotonous 7-inch tablet fight from the past few years and have transformed it into a high-stakes take no prisoners kind of war.
And even if the trio seems to have formed a rather exclusivist circle at the top of the market niche, that can’t stop other manufacturers’ trying to get a piece of the “cake”. One OEM that still looks focused on the 7-inch tab market is Lenovo, who’s now partnered with Vodafone and has released the Smart Tab 2.
Though the slate is marketed under the Vodafone brand, you will surely recognize the similarities between it and Lenovo’s IdeaTab A2107. Not only do the two tablets look almost identical on the exterior (both weighing 400 grams and measuring 0.45 inches in thickness), but they share most of their internals too.
That means the Smart Tab 2, like the A2107, is powered by a pretty modest single-core 1 GHz MTK6575 processor and 1 GB of RAM. The fresh new tab also comes with 3G connectivity, while on-board storage is a measly 4 GB (the A2107 comes in additional 8 and 16 GB variants).
The 7-inch display is also very familiar, sporting a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, while the 3,550 mAh battery should hold its own for up to 10 hours on a single charge, according to official claims (more like 7 or 8 in real life).

Unfortunately, though Lenovo and Vodafone have had enough time to up A2017’s software ante, the Smart Tab 2 still runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The rest of the features are themselves nothing special, but include all of the standards, like dual cameras (2 MP on the back and 0.3 MP on the front), microSD support, Wi-Fi b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth 3.0, and GPS.
With that kind of modest spec sheet, the only thing that might draw your attention towards the Smart Tab 2 is the pricing. Vodafone UK has it starting at £29 with a 24-month contract, while if you want the tab without any strings attached you’ll have to cough up £150. That’s definitely affordable, but is it really cheap enough to make this little guy compete against the likes of the Nexus 7?
We don’t know yet, but if you want some added speed and extra heft, Vodafone and Lenovo will soon have a 10-inch model of the Smart Tab 2 up for grabs. This will sport a 1280 x 800 pix res display and will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 CPU.
Though it will also only run Android 4.0 ICS, the 10-incher has a bunch of advantages compared with its smaller brother, including 16 GB of on-board storage, a much larger 6,340 mAh battery, a 5 MP rear-facing camera, and HDMI. No words on pricing yet, but as soon as we’ll find out something we’ll come back to you.

Samsung Announces New 64GB eMMC Standard for Mobile Devices

Samsung Electronics announced today a new generation of multimedia memory eMMC, created using 10 nanometers (nm) technology. Embedded memory is a key component in smartphones and tablets today, which rely more heavily on internal storage then on external storage options, such as microSD.
Samsung Electronics 64GB EMMC Pro
The new storage solution from Samsung has a write speed of 2,000 random IOPS (input / output per second) and a random read rate of 5,000 IOPS. In addition, sequential read and write speeds are 260 megabits per second (MB / s) and 50MB / s and up to 10 times faster than a class 10 microSD card that offers a read speed up to the 24MB / s and writes at 12MB / s. The new solution greatly enhances multitasking abilities of mobile gadgets.
Samsung applies the latest technology to 64GB eMMC high performance cards through NAND memory manufactured using 10nm technology, to result in the new 64GB eMMC Pro Class 2000. The new embedded memory solution exceeds the performance levels of the conventional 64GB eMMC Pro Class 1500 based on an eMMC 4.5 interface. The Pro Class 2000 eMMC memory measures just 11.5mm to 13mm for the current model, which represents a reduction of 20 percent in size compared to previous generations.
The new high-speed standard eMMC will be presented next year for approval by (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) for adoption as an industry standard.

BlackBerry Messenger 7.0 To Come With Free Voice Calls Over Wi-Fi

RIM has announced a new version of BlackBerry Messenger, which brings free Voice calls to BBM contacts over Wi-Fi. Earlier this week, the company also announced that the BlackBerry 10 OS will be launched on January 30th, 2013.
BlackBerry has seen a lot of loss and declining sales thanks to everyone going either the Android or iOS way. RIM’s only chance to save the dying BlackBerry brand is with BlackBerry 10, which is a brand new OS and has a lot of new features. We’ll see what happens with that, but lets talk about the all new BBM 7 for now.
Download BlackBerry Messenger 7.0 With Free Voice Calls Over Wi-Fi
BlackBerry Messenger 7 has the new feature called BBM Voice, which lets you call other BBM contacts for free over Wi-Fi. All you have to do is tap the Call icon or the hardware button to place a free voice call. While on call, you can also continue to chat, send files and multi-task normally. This is very useful for when you want to talk to your friends/family living in another country. BBM 7 will also show you if a contact is available for a Voice call. The new version can also sync with your BlackBerry ID, which takes a backup of your BBM and can be useful when restoring to another device.
BBM 7 beta is currently available for testing to all BlackBerry Beta Zone members. If you have got an account, you can head over to the Beta Zone and wait for the download. You’ll need a BlackBerry device running on BB OS 6 or higher to try the new BBM 7.

Previous Post Next Post Android 4.2 ‘Verify apps’ security feature explained by Google

Since we inevitably keep talking about malware in the Android ecosystem, and since we have already told you a bunch of times that Android 4.2 comes with some enhanced anti-malware security features, it’s time to look at Google’s official explanation regarding one of the new Google Play security protections that has been built into the new OS version, app verification.
Even before Android 4.2 became official, we heard that Google may be looking to improve the security of its app ecosystem by introducing new security measures in Android 4.2 meant to better protect users against unwanted attacks.
Those features were confirmed once Android 4.2 was announced, and can be taken advantage of right away by any Android 4.2 device user, including the apps verification process.
As long as it’s enabled – because it can be disabled by the user and it’s not mandatory to be used – the new security feature will scan the apps you want to download against Google’s database of apps. In case Google finds the apps to be harmful in any way, installing them will not be possible. Such a feature is especially useful if you plan to install lots of apps from other sources than Google’s own Play Store.
What data does Google get when communicating with your handset? Google explains:
Important: When you verify applications, Google receives log information, URLs related to the app, and general information about the device, such as the Device ID, version of the operating system, IP address, and one or more cookies.
Even though the feature is enabled by default on the device, it won’t transmit any data until you expressly agree for it to do so. A dialog message will appear asking for permission the first time you install an app for an unknown source.
In order to manage apps verification, you can head to Settings > Security > Verify apps on your smartphone or tablet running Android 4.2.

Nexus 7 on Android 4.2 having problems updating Google Play apps?

Nexus 7
In case you own a Nexus 7 tablet then you probably know that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is already available for the device and can be installed immediately, which you probably already did as soon as the update came out.
But it looks like Android 4.2 isn’t flaw-free and an issue has already been spotted by the guys over at Droid-Life. Apparently Nexus 7 users may run into problems when trying to update their Google Play apps after upgrading to Android 4.2
However, the problem seems to have an easy fix, as discovered by other users that have experienced the app update error. If you have encountered the same annoyance, you’ll only have to remove your Google account, reboot the tablet and then setup your Google account again. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to update your apps just like before.

Twitter hacked Accounts Were Compromised

Twitter hacked Accounts Were Compromised - Twitter, the massive micro-blogging social network, is reported to be hacked early today. Apparently a lot of accounts have been compromised and if you received an email to change your Twitter password, don’t ignore it as it is not a phishing attempt. Many Twitter users are reporting that upon log-in, they are asked to reset their passwords because their accounts may have been compromised.

Twitter hacked Accounts Were Compromised

Twitter hacked Accounts Were Compromised
Twitter has just released its statement admitting the fact that many user accounts on Twitter had been breached. But during this madness, Twitter messed up, ending up resetting passwords of accounts not affected by the hack.
Here is their official statement,
“We’re committed to keeping Twitter a safe and open community. As part of that commitment, in instances when we believe an account may have been compromised, we reset the password and send an email letting the account owner know this has happened along with information about creating a new password. This is a routine part of our processes to protect our users.
In this case, we unintentionally reset passwords of a larger number of accounts, beyond those that we believed to have been compromised. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.”
The hack was pretty widespread as a large number of Twitter users were affected by this breach including the popular tech-blog TechCrunch, which started sending out spam tweets (though now they’ve regained control of it).

Nexus 10 detailed as “highest resolution on the planet” tablet

This morning Google has gone through with announcing their full set of devices and software even without the accompanying event – hitting it all off with the Nexus 10, a tablet with a rather sharp display. This device has a 10.1-inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution (300ppi by Google’s count) and a battery they say will last 500 hours on standby – or 9 hours playing video. This unit works with a front-facing set of stereo speakers not unlike the Galaxy Note 10.1 or Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and is indeed made by Samsung.

This device is what Google calls the “first truly sharable tablet” as its using Android 4.2 which works with multiple users that can be switched from the lockscreen. Each user has his or her own email, apps, bookmarks, and settings. Your own home screens, music, and gaming scores, too! This unit will be appearing on the 13th of November for a set of different prices depending on the internal storage in the USA, UK, Australia, France Germany, Spain, Canada and Japan.

Also note that the Nexus 10 has a PLS display – that meaning plane-to-line switching. It’s both absolutely bright and sharp as a tac. We’ll certainly be getting more hands-on time with this device as well as the Nexus 4 and its wireless charger soon. Google will have this device ready for the wi-fi seeking market first, then 4G LTE sooner than later – no word on exactly when quite yet!

Prices will be $399 for the 16GB version and $499 for the 32GB version, and inside with the newest version of Jelly Bean (that being essentially Jelly Bean+,) it would appear that Google has created another rather interesting value proposal, right alongside the Nexus 7 – also updated in price and specifications today – and the Nexus 4. Stay tuned for more via our Android portal! (Update: UK pricing is £319 for the 16GB model and £389 for the 32GB)

iPad Mini’s Initial Stock Gets Sold Out!

When Apple launched the iPad mini alongside many other products, many were not sure how well the iPad would do. Initially it seemed that the iPad mini would cannibalize it’s competitors but when Apple announced the price, it was a shocker. The iPad mini’s price was a staggering $329. But it seems it is doing well, as the iPad mini’s initial stock has been sold out!

iPad Mini Sold

iPad mini pre orders have been sold out. This previous Friday iPad mini was available for pre-order and after 2 days the initial stock has been sold out. This is good news for Apple, right? Well it is but we simply can not judge on how well it is doing by the initial pre-order.
People’s first reaction regarding the smaller tablet from Apple was that it is a good device but with a heft price tag. To an extend this is true but if you compare the device against its competitors it kind of falls short in many categories.

The entire iPad mini models have not been sold out. Actually the 16GB version of the iPad mini has been sold out, and that too after two days. This is well below Apple’s standard as they are normally sell out within some hours. But you have to give credit to Apple regarding selling out the 16GB version of the iPad mini.
Also we do not know how many were in Apple’ inventory so to get the idea of how many iPad mini’s have been sold thus far. We will have to wait until we get the official statement from Apple.
If you are going to buy an iPad mini you will now have to wait two more weeks.

Google Nexus 10 leaks: Android 4.2, Exynos 5250 (1.7GHz), 2,560 x 1,600 resolution

Google Nexus 10 leaks Android 42, Exynos 5250 17GHz, 2,560 x 1,600 resolution
Unless we're looking at one of the most elaborately photographed fakes in the world, this is the Nexus 10. With the Nexus 7 apparently going over quite well at just $199, it was only ever a matter of time before the Nexus family expanded to house a 10-incher. With Google's own Vic Gundotra posting images from a unit that he's using at some exotic locale, it seems that another unit has slipped beneath the camera at BriefMobile. The site has managed to apprehend one of the 10.1-inch slates, and in turn has discovered quite the bounty of information.
Internally, there's (reportedly) a dual-core 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5250, a Mali-T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (though no microSD expansion slot), a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, NFC / WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a Super AMOLED panel with a drool-worthy 2,560 x 1,600 screen resolution -- yeah, that's well into "Retina" territory at 298.9 pixels per inch. You may recognize that Exynos 5250 from Google's recently released $249 Chromebook, but here, it's being used to push Android 4.2. Those hungry for more can visit the source link, but don't go in hoping to extract an asking price.

iPad mini goes to school as Apple education focus tipped

Apple’s iPad mini event will see particular emphasis on the smaller tablet’s role in educational settings, sources claim, as part of a push to secure lucrative school district contracts to put IT equipment in classrooms. The educational capabilities of the slate – believed to run iOS, like its larger sibling, but on a 7.85-inch screen – will be one of a number of key themes at tomorrow’s event, Bloomberg‘s source suggests, with experts indicating that the rumored $249 starting price could prove the tipping point.

Many schools have already adopted iPads for the classroom, swayed by the growth in availability of educational software in the App Store, the rise of iBooks textbook content, and the cheaper price of the tablet in comparison to Macs. However, even with the iPad range starting at $399 for the iPad 2, it’s still not an inexpensive buy when you have a classroom – or a school – full of students to cater for.
To that audience, however, the rumored $249 kicking off point for the iPad mini – together with the ecosystem of apps and services – might bring the slate under a budgetary ceiling whereby principles could equip whole classes with them. Final pricing for the iPad mini is unknown, though other sources have denied the $249 figure and instead argued Apple will launch the tablet at $329 and above.
SlashGear will be at Apple’s iPad mini event – also expected to see the reveal of updated iMacs and a new, 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display – bringing back all the news in our traditional liveblog. Join us at live.slashgear.com from 10am PT (1pm ET) on Tuesday, October 23 for all the news as it’s announced!

French hacker creates fake Android apps, steals over $600,000

French hacker creates fake Android apps, steals over $600,000
By stealing tiny amounts of money from over 17,000 users, a 20-year-old in northern France accumulated about €500,000 (roughly $653,000 or £405,000) since 2011. Working out of the basement of his parent’s home, he would create fake apps mimicking legitimate applications and would attract downloads by making them free.

Once installed, the app would send a text message to a premium-rate number he set up and collect small sums of money. The virus would also send him log on IDs and passwords to gaming and gambling sites.

Once arrested, he admitted his crimes and told authorities he was not motivated by greed. Rather, he said he simply loves computers and wants to be a software developer. He has no formal training or education but is reported to be quite smart. Of course, given he let these scam apps go on for a year and the amount of money collected during that time, it is quite difficult to accept that money was not a factor.

Apple World We Found A New Bug In iOS 6

Folks over at AppAdvice have got the ability to have “per account” signatures, and as most of you know it’s a useful thing for those of you who are real on more than one E-mail account attached to Apple iDevcies.

If you create a new email and switch the account you’re sending it from, the signature also changes. It’s pretty nifty, but apparently this new feature is a little buggy.
Recently, esteemed editor Jay discovered a problem with “per account” signatures. If you have this feature enabled and don’t have a signature set up for each account,
switching to accounts with signatures can be problematic.

When you create a new email, your default account’s signature will be present. If your default email account lacks a signature in the “per account” settings, when you switch addresses to an account with a signature, it will not be displayed.

Furthermore, if your default account has a signature set up and you switch to an address without one, switching back to an account with a signature will yield the same results.

This may not be an issue for everyone, but it’s certainly a notable bug. If you have multiple email accounts on your iOS device and wish to use the “per account” signature setting, you can avoid this bug by creating a signature for each email address.

Well folks, it may not be a big problem with most of you but it’s certainly a notable bug found in Apple’s operating system!

Quad Core Tablet Acer Iconia Tab A110 Gets Priced at $230, Coming to USA on October 30

It appears that the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD aren’t the only cheap tablets on the US market, since on October 30 the Acer Iconia Tab A110 will arrive. This model is a 7 incher quad core Tegra 3 device, with a very affordable price tag of $229.99, but there are also downsides to this unit.
This slate runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and supports a resolution of just 1024 x 600 pixels, plus it comes with 8 GB of storage, like the Nexus 7 basic version. 1GB of RAM is also on board, but this time we also get microSD storage, for up to 32 GB. Another advantage is the microHDMI port on board, that connects the Acer Iconia Tab A110 to a HDTV, something that the Nexus 7 lacks. Seeing that Google is rumored to offer a $99 version of the Nexus 7, this Acer product doesn’t sound that impressive any more.
In case you’re wondering, the CPU inside has a frequency of 1.2 GHz on the new Acer Iconia model and I sure hope the quality is better in this case compared to the previous Iconias I’ve seen in 2012. The Iconia Tab A510 had a lot of problems, for example…

South Korea Won’t Ban The iPhone And iPad Just Yet

In an amusing reversal of fates, Apple is facing problems at the hands of Samsung in South Korea that are quite similar to the ones they’ve inflicted upon Samsung in the United States. After Apple has handed injunctions to Samsung that prevent the sale of a few of their devices, including the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung has returned the favour by getting injunctions against the iPad and iPhone in South Korea. It looks like Apple isn’t quite doomed in South Korea yet, though.
A report from Bloomberg today informs us that Apple has been granted a delay on the injunction until their appeal process can be completed. Until that appeal trial can happen, Apple will be allowed to continue selling iPads and iPhone, and only if they lose that appeal will the devices be banned from sale in South Korea. Yes, this is happening on the same day that an American court overturned the injunction against the Galaxy Nexus that Apple has been pushing. The world is weird sometimes.
The most intriguing part of this whole Apple vs. Samsung affair has been seeing how much the different countries’ judicial systems bat for their home teams. In the United States, Apple  - an American company – won a massive victory over Samsung that would have the Korean company paying them over $1 billion. At the same time, South Korea is seriously considering banning the iPhone and iPad from sale because of alleged patent infringements against Samsung – a South Korean company.
The courts of neutral third-party nations like the UK and Germany have ruled mostly in favour of Samsung, though Apple has also scored some international victories.
The fact that patent law is so open to wildly different interpretations like this might be the best evidence we’ve seen of just how broken beyond repair the current patent system is, in both the United States and other places that have modeled their systems off the American one.
