“Siri For Android”, Don’t Get Fooled By The Name

As the iPhone 4S got launched, the new voice-activated virtual assistant SIRI was also introduced by Apple which instantly impressed thus forcing developers to add the same feature on Android smartphones. But despite all the efforts, they have failed to match up to Siri. Details below!

Though there are some reports that Siri doesn’t recognize certain commands or accents still there is no match to the technology which Apple has provided on iPhone 4S whether it be Iris, Vlingo, Cluzee or even Google’s own Voice Actions.

App Publisher “Official App” has launched “Siri for Android” on Wednesday which is considered to be an official port of Apple’s Siri software to Android smartphones but actually, it’s a shortcut that launches Google’s built-in Voice Actions and is already installed in more than 1000 devices.

This fact was not hidden by the app developer that Siri for Android is a simple app launcher in its Android Market description, by stating:

“Siri, now for your Android device!

This application is a Siri icon that opens “Google’s Voice Actions” app.”

The ones who are experienced and have been using smartphone would not mistake in understanding that this app is bogus and even, in the Android Market download charts, some users have rated this app low so that it doesn’t start to trend in the market. But the issue is a lot of Android users have already downloaded it and hence the new users would be no different and they would download it too.

As Google doesn’t keep a rigorous check on it’s market thus developers like “Official App” make use of such loopholes and breach the law and launch such applications that don’t abide by the rules and regulations and thus no copyrights protection and it so happen that a developer could load malware into the app to use the brand name so that it may get huge number of installs.

Another example is that of “Official Pinterest app” which has exceeded 10,000 installations and same is the case, it redirects users to an already existing app i.e Pinterest’s mobile website & interestingly, users even seem to ignore the below message:

The latest news shows that both the apps from the developer has been pulled off from the Android market. The users can search for Siri for Android and are not going to find it. It’s good to have such harmful apps pulled off! We are good with the original Siri.
